Moong Badam ka Halwa

Serves 8-10 persons

1 cup moong dal

1 cup almonds

1 cup melted ghee

1 cup sugar (not heaped)

2 cups of milk

1 teaspoon cardamon powder or more

1/2 teaspoon saffron


  1. Wash and Soak split green gram for a minimum of 3 hrs.

  2. Wash and soak almonds for 3 hrs in warm water. Peel

  3. Drain the lentil dry and roast the dal/lentil for 15 minutes. Every grain will separate and will not stick to the pan. It may take 15 minutes.

  4. Blend but not so smooth (not very coarse either)

  5. Pour 2 tablespoon of ghee in another pan and keep aside ( this is to roast the nuts)

  6. Add the leftover ghee in a roomy pan (around 3/4)and add all the blended lentil paste and stir it for 45 minutes and low heat.

Almond Milk preparation

Meanwhile as the lentils are browning, in another pan which has 2 tablespoons of ghee and roasts the almonds smooth.

take off the almonds which have been roasted for 15 minutes in a blender.

add 1 cup of milk and 1 cup of sugar and blend smooth paste.
